About

Manley and Colwell facilitate firearm auctions in Wales and the UK in collaboration with Aber Armoury, a registered Section 1 and 2 firearms dealer.

We provide silent-bid (also known as sealed-bid) gun auctions so both buyers and sellers can get the fairest price. Silent-bids hide the amount from other entrants, so you bid the amount you feel is fair from the outset. If you are out-bid you will receive an email notification.

You will need to create an account in the My Account section to bid.

We collect guns from sellers in Wales and beyond and can arrange national shipping to another Registered Firearms Dealer. Alternatively, you can visit the Aber Armoury shop in Aberystwyth to collect your products. If you are outside Great Britain, you can still bid once you are registered, but you will need to organise your own international shipping.

We request that all users of our site regularly accept our Terms and Conditions. This confirms you are over 18 and legally able to purchase the firearms you bid on.

Your bid is an offer to buy and the winning bidder is legally committed to pay their winning bid and the 20% buyer’s premium.

We cannot release your purchase until we have seen your valid firearms certificate with the relevant free slots.

If you do not already have a licence, you can apply online on the UK Gov website at www.gov.uk/find-licences/shotgun-and-firearm-certificates. There you will find general information on how to apply and start your application.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will you sell me a gun if I don’t have a license?

No! We will not sell you a gun until we have physically confirmed you have the correct certificate with appropriate slots.

If you have won an auction, you will need to post your valid licence to us via recorded delivery. We will check the details and deal with the exchange before returning it to you via recorded delivery. Once we have verified your certificates and received your payment, we will release your order.

When you agree to our Terms and Conditions, you confirm that you have the right to buy the guns you are bidding on, including the correct certification. Your bid is an offer to buy. The winning bidder is commited to pay the hammer price and the 20% buyer’s premium. If you are unable to provide the relevant certificates you will still be charged for our losses, as outlined in our Terms and Conditions.

2. Can anyone bid?

When you access our site you will have agreed our Terms and Conditions and confirmed you are over 18 years of age and legally able to purchase the item you are bidding on.

You will need to set up a free account to bid. Go to the My Account section.

You will be asked to add your payment details. This allows us to confirm your identity in addition to ensuring payments can be made in the future. No money will be taken from your account when you sign-up.

3. What fees do you charge?

There is no regular fee to sign up to our site.

If you are selling a gun we take 20% of the final hammer price.

If you win the auction there is a 20% Buyer’s Premium of the hammer price which will be added to your invoice.

We have a flat rate shipping charge of £50 + VAT for the UK if you are unable to collect.

If you do not collect your gun within 28 days we charge a £5 per week, per gun storage fee.

4. I want to sell my gun, will you collect it?

Yes, we can collect your gun from you.

We primarily trade in Wales, UK but on occasion can come further afield.

5. Can I delete my bid?

We do not allow customers to delete their bids.

Binding bids are common practice in auctions. Your bid is an offer to buy and the winning bidder is legally committed to pay the hammer price and the buyer’s premium. More information can be found in our terms and conditions.

If you have made a genuine mistake, you can email info@manleyandcolwellauctions.com BEFORE the auction closes. Deleting bids is at the Auctioneers’discretion.

Customers abusing the system by frequently requesting we cancel their bids will have their accounts blocked.

6. What happens if two people bid the same amount and win?

The first person to bid will win the auction.

7. Can I cancel my sale after winning?

No. Sales can only be cancelled in exceptional circumstances.

The guns in our auctions are sold on behalf of private sellers, with Manley and Colwell acting as their agent. This means your rights are different from when you buy from a business like a gun shop.

Your rights, such as the item must matching it’s description, are defined in our terms and conditions.

Your bid is an offer to buy and the winning bidder is legally committed to pay the hammer price and the buyer’s premium.

8. Can you post a gun to me?

As required by UK law, licenced firearms can only be couriered from RFD to RFD (Registered Firearms Dealer).

If you are not an RFD then you will need to contact your local one and request the gun be delivered to their shipping address. They may charge their own fees.

9. Do you post internationally?

It is your responsibility to arrange shipping internationally, we only ship internally.

We can arrange delivery to your own UK based RFD as advised.

10. Who are Aber Armoury?

Manley and Colwell Auctions process your orders in association with Aber Armoury based in Aberystwyth, Wales, UK.

Whilst Aber Armoury are a different entity, the owner is a partner in Manley and Colwell Auctions, is a Registered Firearms Dealer (RFD number 63/3361) and have a shop. Any collections and drop-offs will take place at the Aber Armoury shop.

11. What payment options do you have?

We currently only accept bank transfers. Details will be shared on your invoice.

We will accept cash and card payments if you collect from the Aber Armoury shop.

No orders will be released until full payment has been received.

12. Are you a Section 5 dealer?

We are not a Section 5 dealer of prohibited firearms.
